2025-2026 Villanova Theatre Season

2025 Sue Winge Playwriting Award Staged Reading
Written by Alison Scaramella (MA '22)
Directed by Megan Bellwoar (MA '90)
Getting pregnant should be sexy, right? (Well — at least there's sex... right?) Maggie and Jamie have been on this rollercoaster ride for a while, but neither are prepared for the curves to come.
Along the way, the couple encounters all manner of allies and obstacles, from in-laws who seem to keep popping out kids, to unhelpful doctors, crazed pregnancy apps, and family members with more opinions than sympathy. Scaramella’s writing is insightful, sharp, and witty, handling the topic of infertility in the 21st century with honesty and grace. The play will leave audiences with a deeper appreciation of the exciting and terrifying prospect of trying to bring new life into our current world.
Performances will take place on Thursday, October 23rd and Friday, October 24th at 7pm in the Smith Performance Lab at the John and Joan Mullen Center for the Performing Arts (at Lancaster and Ithan Avenues).
Talkbacks with the playwright will follow each reading, and the Friday, October 24 performance will also feature a post-performance reception. Tickets are free and open to the public; no reservations are required.
