Like all good art, theatre asks audiences to engage with universal questions on a personal, sometimes challenging level. At the same time, please do note that there is a difference between trauma and discomfort. Without the latter, we can narrow and limit our experiences in ways detrimental to ourselves as individuals and as members of this community. Please use your best judgment and exercise self-care as needed.
I Will Speak for Myself
by Valerie Joyce | ft. Kimberly S. Fairbanks
Sep. 18, 19 @ 8pm | Sep. 22 @ 2pm
Wildcard Wednesday: Sep. 18
Seldom-told stories spring to life in this riveting performance embodying eleven African-American women who lived in the United States before Emancipation.
She Was a Conquistawhore
by Rachel O'Hanlon-Rodriguez
Sep. 20 & 28 @ 8pm
They say the Conquistawhore drinks her weight in whiskey, brawls her own vagina – which sounds fun, but he is a true madman – and wanders the Wild West…or is it just the Main Line? Rachel O’Hanlon-Rodriguez’s hilarious blend of standup comedy and theatrical poetry conjures a legend to poke fun at (and holes into) outdated notions about sex while boldly celebrating our ability to transform.
Demoniac
by Kate Fischer
Sep. 27 @ 8pm | Sep. 29 @ 2pm
Rejoice, for the century of saints is here! And sainthood has never been closer for Reverend Mother Jeanne de Anges of the Ursuline Sisters of Loudon. Witness and pray as she recounts the unquestionably sainthood-worthy story of her deliverance from Seven Demons. Kate Fischer’s tour-de-force Demoniac hysterically explores the story of a mass possession at a 17th-century French convent.
Stories in My Mother Tongue
by Noelle Diane Johnson
Sep. 21 @ 8pm | Sep. 26 @ 8pm
How, when, and why do we tell the stories that make us whole? Through movement, poetry, and music, Noelle Diane Johnson fearlessly explores what it means when the body remembers, how to reclaim lost languages and find your way home, all while dancing to a rhythm uniquely yours. Stories in my Mother Tongue reveals the inextricable relationship between grief and joy, and powerfully affirms the healing power of acceptance.
This production is made possible in part with support from the Jilline Ringle Solo Performance Program administered by 1812 Productions.
